Senior Living Communities in South Dakota

Join us and explore how our senior living communities offer community, wellness, and enrichment for older adults across South Dakota. Each life we touch has carried a rich history of memories and experiences shaped by living in our state. South Dakota itself has a rich history; from East River to West River, its frontier legacy resonates with many. At Peaceful Pines, we encourage our residents to discover hidden gems of their hometowns with a sense of adventure. Here are some of the ways Peaceful Pines connects with our communities.
Brookings
Peaceful Pines at Brookings has an energized and creative team that loves helping residents enjoy the charm of Brookings! From historical discoveries at the Brookings County Museum, to building a bridge across generations with South Dakota State University’s women’s basketball team, the Life Enrichment team works hard to capture the importance of heritage and family while keeping residents engaged with Brookings’ current events. Since opening in 2024, Peaceful Pines at Brookings has also participated in Downtown at Sundown, an annual Brookings-wide event that invites the community to shop, eat, gather, play, and celebrate summer in downtown Brookings.
Fort Pierre
Peaceful Pines at Fort Pierre is bursting at the seams with local history and stories. Being centrally located in South Dakota across the Missouri River from the state capital, Fort Pierre itself is a treasure trove of hidden gems! Residents in Fort Pierre can learn at the South Dakota National Guard Museum, step back in time with the Pierre Street Masters’ car show, work alongside the Boys & Girls Club to build garden beds, and volunteer at the Pierre Senior Center. Now in its second full year of caring for residents, Peaceful Pines at Fort Pierre is turning a couple of its favorite events into tradition by hosting a Valentine’s Day sweetheart dance and a Fall Hoedown to get everyone, from independent living to memory care, out on the dance floor.
We know that the residents of Peaceful Pines are windows into a lifetime of South Dakota experiences, and we have the privilege of getting to know them. One resident has warranted special recognition, and she has been named South Dakota Centenarian of the Year, two years in a row! Hazel Baumberger has special memories of growing up on her family farm in Onida, South Dakota, attending the first Sturgis Rally in 1938, and enjoying a 90-year standing family picnic tradition. You can read more about Hazel here, in a special blog featuring her story. We are certainly glad to have her at Peaceful Pines.
Huron
Huron, South Dakota is perfect for small town living, and our Peaceful Pines team has a skill for consistently visiting great local spots, such as Putters & Scoops and Gigi’s for ice cream and coffee. This community has also placed an emphasis on education for our residents by hosting Lunch & Learn events featuring local community members. These events have included a Fall Prevention seminar with Carr Chiropractic Clinic, and Dementia Education with the Alzheimer’s Association. These seminars are helpful for residents who may be considering a higher level of care such as moving from independent living to assisted living, or from assisted living to memory care. In addition, Peaceful Pines in Huron hosts music groups from schools and churches to provide some enriching entertainment.
Peaceful Pines at Huron is also known for hosting occasional wine tasting events and hosts weekly happy hours for residents, their friends, and family members. At Peaceful Pines, we love opening our doors to the community, and we look forward to your next visit!
Madison
The team at Peaceful Pines at Madison does an excellent job of inviting the community into the building, offering volunteer opportunities and local music performances. Recently, they partnered with the American Red Cross to hold a blood drive, with donations from 39 generous donors in the Madison area. They also hosted the Madison Community Band for a lively evening of music!
Madison itself celebrates summer with a multi-week annual event called Downtown in MadTown, where vendors and local businesses come together to shop, connect, and enjoy the season. Peaceful Pines Senior Living joins in the festivities with a booth where visitors can enter raffles, play games, and learn more about senior living options.
Milbank
The Peaceful Pines at Milbank team is superior in offering sweet treats to the community! Just about every event they have hosted comes with something delicious, such as their classic Root Beer Floats and Tours days in the summertime. Their activities calendar is full of life and sweetness, with frequent visits to The Millstone for coffee and donuts, LaBolt Dam for fresh air, walking, and scenic views, and exercise games like chair volleyball and other group games.
Peaceful Pines at Milbank is involved in Farley Fest each year, a summer celebration that boasts outdoor concerts, car shows, a cornhole tournament and other games, a barbeque contest, parade, activities for kids, and more. The fun brings families and businesses of Milbank to Lake Farley Park and offers a great chance for community connection. If you are ever in Milbank in the third week in June, you will want to check out Farley Fest.
Rapid City
This Peaceful Pines location has been open since 2018 and has beloved traditions and creative events for the Rapid City community. This team at Rapid City is obviously passionate about senior care. They participate in the local Alzheimer’s Association fundraiser walk each September to support the efforts of Memory Care nationwide. The community also occasionally hosts unique events like a garage sale or craft and bake sale, as well as classic Easter Egg Hunts, Mother’s and Father’s Day events, and summer barbeques. With its location in the scenic Black Hills near Mount Rushmore and surrounded by natural beauty, Peaceful Pines in Rapid City gives residents easy access to outdoor adventures. From exploring Keystone to nearby historical landmarks, our residents have many opportunities to enjoy the rich landscapes of the region.
Spearfish
In its first year open, Peaceful Pines at Spearfish has been busy! This community has placed a great emphasis on wellness and education. The community has collaborated with Elevate Physical Therapy, The Massage Way, The Life Counseling, and Black Hills Federal Credit Union to host wellness events and educational seminars about heart health, banking and fraud scams, and yoga. Further, Peaceful Pines at Spearfish is a welcoming, family-friendly community. We love seeing grandparents enjoy meaningful time with their children and grandchildren. Family members are also welcome for Trick or Treating, an Easter Egg Hunt, and a Valentine’s Day card exchange!
