Growth & Milestones
Our 2025 Review can be summed up in two words: Growth and milestones. With four communities opening in 2024, we began this January with seven open locations in South Dakota. The year has given us opportunities to expand the care we offer, grow and train excellent staff, and welcome many residents to our communities. The events and activities at Peaceful Pines are thriving!
On the administrative side of Peaceful Pines, HME Care worked diligently to add Respite Stays and Day Stay care to our communities. We have also invested in our leaders and team-building opportunities. An abundance of positive collaboration has fueled our vision for 2026 and beyond.
Here are some of our favorite moments of the year!
Care Options: Respite Stays & Day Stays
In addition to Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care options, Adult Day Services and Respite Stays were added to Peaceful Pines Senior Living in 2025.
Adult Day Services provide daytime activities, meals, and health support for participants. We can offer caregivers much needed respite without compromising the care their family members need and deserve!
Respite Stays are a similar temporary Assisted Living or Memory Care option that gives you time to rest, work, or travel while knowing your loved one is safe and welcomed. A few days of support can make a huge difference for caregivers and their families.
Events
Our communities have been BUSY this year! Each Peaceful Pines location has planned multiple events for residents, families, and the public to enjoy. These include:
- A Fall Hoedown
- Educational Seminars
- Open Houses
- Trick or Treat Events
- National Assisted Living Week
- Mother’s & Father’s Day lunches

Spearfish – Wellness Day
The Spearfish team kicked off the year with a fantastic Wellness Day last January! Local professionals came to Peaceful Pines and led chair yoga sessions, played live music, and offered massages to liven the winter mood. It was a fantastic start to 2025.
Rapid City – Walk to End Alzheimer’s
Peaceful Pines at Rapid City is passionate about sponsoring the fight against Alzheimer’s! Each September, teams can register to walk and fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Association. The Peaceful Pines Pacesetters were active again.
Madison – American Red Cross Blood Drive
Peaceful Pines Madison hosted a hugely successful Blood Drive in June. With 39 generous donors, the American Red Cross was able to collect enough blood to potentially save 111 lives! Our Peaceful Pines community, as well as the community of Madison, South Dakota really made us proud that day!
Milbank – A Baker’s Dozen
In Milbank, our community has hosted multiple “Sweet Treat” events this year. Opening doors to the public for a quick reprieve from both heat and freeze has been a generous and sweet tradition to see.
Fort Pierre – South Dakota’s Centenarian of the Year
In 2024, Hazel became South Dakota’s oldest living resident! In 2025, she defended her title, and we love celebrating her. Read more HERE to learn about Hazel’s life, her fondest memories, and some of her favorite things about Peaceful Pines.
Huron – Lunch & Learns
Peaceful Pines Huron hosted educational events throughout the year, helping us share our expertise with the community. They have offered seminars about dementia, fraud and identity theft protection, advanced care planning, living wills, mental health, and care support options. This knowledge is extremely valuable for older adults and families!
Brookings – Turkey Bingo
This creative take on Bingo has our hearts melting! At Peaceful Pines Brookings, the second annual Turkey Bingo event was a huge success. Every dollar raised benefitted the Brookings VFW, and over 150 items were donated to the Food Pantry. We love seeing this team muster so much support for a good cause!
Peaceful Pines Leadership Retreat
In November, the HME Care leadership team, and representatives of each Peaceful Pines community attended the first-ever Leadership Retreat in Oacoma, South Dakota. With a theme of “Howdy, Partners,” this retreat focused on having crucial conversations, onboarding tools, and Mission, Vision, and Values components. This is an innovative and driven group of leaders, and their dedication to celebrating all Peaceful Pines residents is an absolute inspiration!
Groundbreaking in Mitchell, SD
On October 15, in partnership with Justin and Janelle Thiesse of JTZ Properties, LLC, we officially broke ground on our newest senior living community in Mitchell, South Dakota! We are bringing our vision of Living Life Together to fruition yet again and look forward to creating a community where residents truly feel at home.
After a successful Groundbreaking ceremony, construction on the project began. The lakeview location is serene, and the team is looking forward to a busy 2026! Follow our Facebook Page HERE to stay updated with the construction progress.
Looking Ahead
With the many changes our communities have seen this year, our vision remains constant. We intend to enrich the mind, body, and soul for each resident at Peaceful Pines by creating a community that balances social, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs.
